Stewardship of
Shady Flat Cabin
In 2003, the Sierra County Arts Council accepted the deed to the artist studio and home of the late, famed artist Frank "Pancho" Willmarth at Shady Flat between Downieville and Sierra City.
The land upon which the Shady Flat Cabin stands is part of Tahoe National Forest. The Arts Council is working with the United States Forest Service to preserve this beautiful historic site for future generations.
We hope to have more material on Shady Flat Cabin on this site shortly. In the meantime, please consult Katie Willmarth Green's Sierra Gold Rush History site for information on her wonderful book, Like a Leaf Upon the Current Cast, which tells the story of Shady Flat and its environs in Sierra County.
